How to Apply for a Job in the Middle East

By mdamaj

  Steps

Write a CV. Even if the kind of job you’re looking for in the Middle East has an application process where a resume isn’t necessary, the process of writing a CV can help sort your thoughts and prepare you for an interview. Having a written record of your work history makes filling out an application much easier too. Tailor the CV to the type of job and career for which you are applying, emphasizing related skills and coursework. Make sure the CV is written in a decent format, easy to read and professional manner. You can use a CV writing professional online as well. Many job sites in the Middle East offer professional CV writing services.

Research the company. Before applying to any job in the Middle East it is very important to research the company and its activities. Most companies in the Middle East have websites to represent themselves and post their jobs. Visit the website; learn about the company, its needs and orientation. This will prepare you greatly in case youve been asked for an interview. All major companies in the Middle East have website and sometime they post their jobs description and requirements. Read and be prepared. Job interviews in Lebanon for instance are very professional and require a real deal of preparations.

Call the company. Whether youre looking for a job in UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi or Lebanon always ask about the application process: “Good morning. My name is Samer. I was wondering if you had any positions open and, if so, how could I apply?” You will usually have your call routed to the hiring executive or human resources department. If they have any vacancies, they’ll either ask you about what kind of job your interested in and then to come in and fill out an application, or they’ll ask you to send your CV and cover letter by e-mail.

Apply. Visit the employer to fill out your application form or send the application by email. Ask to speak to the hiring manager and try to hand the form to them personally. This will give the recruiter a chance to see you and put a face to a name. Most middle sized and large companies in the Middle East, especially Dubai and Saudi Arabia have complex and tailored applications processes. Your CV & application may circulate among several executives it the company before a decision of an interview is taken. Be patient!

Follow up. If you filled out an application but the human resources manager wasn’t there at the time, call three days later, ask to speak to the manager, and confirm that the application was received. If you sent a cover letter and resume by mail, call a week later to confirm their receipt. If you sent them by e-mail, call the day after. Many companies in the Middle East store the CVs received in their Data Bases for later job opening. Applying to several companies is always a plus. You never know when you will be needed and hit a match.
